entry sign small

I never forget what a gorgeous place I live and work in. I look out my office window everyday and see the the mountain at Taos in all its majesty. But something about the weather getting colder and the leaves turning is like a wake up call to remember to appreciate just how stunning this place is and how lucky I am to be here.

freestyle.ch 09

Like every year, the International Freestyle Rider scene and the Swiss freestyle fans got together to celebrate in Zurich with marvelous weather on the Landiwiese.

Like every year, the final was a fireworks of new tricks, and also old gun, like Jon Ollson got stuck in the semi-final. Double Cork / Flips were standard for almost all the riders and were often stomped to perfection. In the end, Sammy Carlson stood on the top of the podium, with  young swiss Elias Amuehl in 2nd and Andrea Hatveit getting 3rd. From K2 Skis side, unfortunately no rider was in the starting field, as PK wasn’t ready to compete yet and Aleksander Aurdal (as last years freestyle.ch Rookie) didn’t get invited again.

In the big Label World all could admire prospects this year's stuff, collect stickers and posters, look at stars and our dear and loved Charlie. At Charlie K2 Guitars were given out to many young rockers which showed their potential for the future.
On Sunday evening most went home tired but already looking forward to next year!

Visualizing now!

September 29th, 2009 - Posted by fran tone

It's that time of year ... temperatures are dropping, the sun is low, the winds are up ... it feels like snow is on the way. What better time to visualize some of your great runs from last season in your mind's eye ... feel the wind in your face, the snow under your feet and that giggle under your breath.   It's almost time to do it all over again.  So that's what I'm doing ... visualizing all sorts of runs in my head now and when the snow flies, I'll hit the ground turning on my new Lotta Luvs.

K2 SKIS Releases "The Fanny Pack2" Trailer

September 24th, 2009 - Posted by mpowell

Critics agree, "The Fanny Pack2" mini-movie is a launch forward for aspiring ski-athlete actors everywhere. Michelle gives a once in a lifetime performance as 'That Girl," a young ambitious newcomer that finds herself in the company of strangers with the common goal of ripping powder up on the mountain. Reggie Crist and Seth Morrison compliment the seasoned cast of characters as they strive to find common ground en route to a thrilling adventure. Pep Fujas and Sean Pettit show that even though most of their tricks exist up on the mountain, they have got  a few surprises for the silver screen as they unleash a masterful handling of their individual roles. After the film, remember to check out the K2 Charlie world tour as he passes through your neck of the woods.

Sheer driving (and riding) pleasure.

Ever heard of the IAA in Frankfurt? If you are interested in cars for sure. It´s one of the biggest car shows in the world. I am not talking US style pick-up trucks, muscle cars (although you see some of them there as well) or high end tuning. I am talking regular cars, 4 wheels, 1 steering wheel, 3 to 5 doors and the right size to fit into Europe´s streets and parking lots. This is THE venue where every major car manufacturer hosts world premiers for new modells and presents new technologies and concepts. Something like SIA or ISPO for the sports industry.

So why talk about this car show here? Well, some of you might notice the header and the car brand that has the copyright on it. K2 has been working on a cross-promotion with exactly that car brand over the last year, and this was the official launch date and event for the cooperation. Any idea what cars we will be driving soon?

K2 has the the ultimate riding machines. This car brand has the ultimate driving machine. Got it?

Still no clue? What about this.

Not the Kässbohrer cat in the back, the car in the front.

Yep, it´s BMW. Some of you might remember classics like the Isetta.

Or the 328 race car which won over 130 races in the 40s,

but this is all about the BRAND NEW BMW X1!

Größenänderung X1_k2_low_26

There´s an official PR release coming out within the next weeks, but I just couldn´t hold back with the news, as we are all really excited about this cooperation! There were a lot of things going on this past season already, we did a photo shoot with BMW for their website and PR activities, sent teamriders for their global X1 TV campaign where you can see K2 teamrider Roman Rohrmoser doing a backflip over the X1, and we have been working on a pan-European event series with K2 ski and snowboard tests, guided ski days by k2 teamriders and guides, some secrect park action where the X1 gets invovled as well as the possibilities to drive the all new X1 on snow. The kick-off of the tour will be in Oberstorf , Germany on December 12th and 13th, all other tour stops will be announced on this site as well as the BMW site within the next weeks, so make sure to check back! We also worked on a K2 LTD.  BMW X1 Edition ski that is based of the Coomback model, which will only be available through raffles in Europe.  And there´s only 500 of those built! A lot going on, and this in almost every country in Europe!

So what happened at the IAA? Well, the BMW booth was unreal! For the first time at IAA the cars could actually do what they are supposed to - drive! Every hour there was a big show where the cars were driving in a loop around the booth with an angled curve of about 30 degrees rigth in front of the audience so everyone could get a perfect view of the cars. The X1 area itself was going off as well, we couldn´t even get close until the end of the show as it was packed with people.

BMW also built a ski simulator game where one had to stand on the K2 LTD. BMW X1 Edition ski and try to move left and rigth to ski through obstacles coming up on the screen. During the game a picture was taken that is shown on the IAA blog.

We also had 2 teamriders at the show participating in the world premier of the BMW X1. Snowboarder Mone Monsberger and ADT (Apache Developement Team) member Stefan Stankalla were getting a ride up on stage in the X1 and doing interviews, talking about the joy of skiing and snowboarding as well as driving the X1, as we had the chance to do already way long before anybody else even knew about the car!

Enough said about our day at the IAA, for more information on the BMW X1 check out the X1 website, and for more information on what´s happening this coming season with K2 and BMW check back here or at the BMW website.

And for those who think they missed out on something, here are some more impressions from the show. Most of them unreachable for us but dude, if I had money...

K2 Charlie goes bozo in Bozeman

September 22nd, 2009 - Posted by mpowell

Heading to Bozeman, MT for one day seemed crazy considering it's eight hours from Salt Lake and thirteen from Denver, our next destination. But to our surprise Tom and Chalet Sports had plenty of fun lined up.  Located right on Main St, Chalet Sports was a perfect location for a meet and greet barbecue. Charlie was a huge hit for the die hard skiers and college students that give Bozeman its righteous vibes.

Chalet Sports made up this sweet flyer inviting everyone to join us for an afternoon of fun.

Charlie was stoked on the turn out. Free Hot dogs are always a hit in a town like this. Those of age enjoyed complimentary PBR as well.

The grill burned on for hours, Chalet Sports and Charlie gave away about 150 hot dogs before we closed it down and headed across the street to the local watering hole. The Chalet Sports crew was well known there, I felt like royalty.  The day trip to Bozeman worked out, now i cant wait to head back this winter for that deep powder everyone spoke of...

Ty Dayberry wins MNF's Coors Light Rail Jam

September 15th, 2009 - Posted by mpowell

There is nothing bigger in America then Monday Night Football and nothing makes the big game more fun then some beverages, barbecue, good friends and a great tailgate set-up.  The folks at Coors Light decided to one-up this formula for fun by adding a Rail-Jam to the mix.  This meant shipping  in 25 tons of snow, a 3 feature set-up and some of Tahoe's best skiers and snowboarders  to an area known as Raiderville, a compound built for the Raider-Nation to party in.  It was hot in Oakland and the snow was melting, but the Rezin Marketing crew, the event organizers,  had this one dialed and both the riders and Raider fans left the event with smiles on their faces.  Unfortunately, the smiles turned to frowns after the Raiders dropped a close one to the Chargers.

There were many amazing costumes to be seen in Raider-Nation
