Custom WOW's Empowering Women

February 26th, 2010 - Posted by fran tone

Can't make that women's program at your favorite ski resort because you have a business trip, board meeting, parent-child conference or a dental appointment?  That's where the Custom WOW  (Women of Winter) comes in.  Squaw Valley's WOW program allows women to schedule their own program on the day they can make it.  This past week was about Custom WOW's at Squaw -- three of them to be exact.  Women got together and arranged their own program that suited their schedule.  February 24, 2010 were women who just couldn't wait another week for a scheduled WOW - they are just having too much fun!

24Feb10

February 25, 2010 were women on their annual ski trip who learned to rip Squaw Valley.

And February 26, 2010 were women who just couldn't get enough of WOW and some who needed a day closer to a weekend (sorry no photo) ... but they ripped up difficult snow conditions with "immature snow" falling.  Despite low vis, we still had a great time and managed to end the WOW with two sweet runs in 75 Chute.  Way to go ladies!

deep pow days in austria

February 26th, 2010 - Posted by dani

Hey guys

Finally we got some amazing snow in the south side of austria!

We got 80cm within 12h and another 40cm during the day, our tracks were nearly covered by new snow during each run!

Hell yeahhh, the last time I had such good pow conditions were in Mt. Baker 3 years ago.

The first half of the day we were only skiing for fun and believe me - we had fun!!!

In the afternoon our filmers finally arrived after a 5h drive and then we started shooting deeeeep pow runs in the wood.

The following day we had blue bird, but the other thing was, the conditions were really sketchy!!!

We decided to go back to the wood, it was to dangerous in the higher area - so much avalanches.....

After 2 days shooting amazing snow conditions it became warm again and we moved to a different area to get some good shots ;)

keep you updated

cheers

Traveling Skis Heads to New Mexico!

February 23rd, 2010 - Posted by adriana

The Traveling Skis arrived in New Mexico along with huge storm.  Thirty-four inches of down snow  fell in Taos over the last three days, and the skis handled it beautifully.  From  soft intermediate bumps to off piste  face shots, every lady that skied them came back smiling!  As we ship them out to their next destination, the sun is coming our and the bluebird skies are back!

K2 Sports Commissions Joel Berman Glass Studios to Create World’s Largest Glass Skis

Sixteen-foot All-Glass Skis to Display During Vancouver Winter Festivities

VANCOUVER, B.C. February 22, 2010 – Snow skiing will be bigger than life as billions of TV viewers around the globe watch the world’s best athletes compete in Vancouver this month. To celebrate the occasion, K2

Sports, the world’s leading manufacturer of snow skis and snowboards, commissioned globally-renowned architectural glass artist Joel Berman to create the world’s largest pair of all-glass skis.

The 16-foot-tall skis, designed with K2’s signature blue, white and red color scheme, were recently installed on the exterior of Berman’s studio on Granville Island, a popular dining and shopping district on the fringe of downtown Vancouver that will be an entertainment epicenter during the city-wide celebration, February 12-28.

According to Anthony De Rocco, K2’s Executive Vice President, K2 Sports and Joel Berman Glass studios collaborated on this project in order to provide a vibrant sports-themed art installation on Granville Island, the heart of Vancouver's dynamic arts community. “K2 Sports has been in the skiing business for almost 50 years and as one of the dominant brands in the North American ski market we saw this as a great way to show our support to the city of Vancouver during this special event”.

“Since Joel Berman Glass Studios is located in such a highly visible and popular area of Vancouver, we realized that we had a unique opportunity to honor the athletes and celebrate the festivities with a sports-themed art installation that had never before been achieved,” said Saleem Khattak, Senior Designer for Joel Berman Glass Studios. “And K2 Sports was the perfect partner for this project.”

In addition to being a one-of-a-kind piece of art, the process of building the skis was a feat in itself involving new glass-on-glass color printing processes on fused colored glass.

Following the Vancouver events, the skis will be transferred to Seattle to adorn K2’s 300,000-square-foot headquarter facilities that the company moved into from its original home on Vashon Island, Washington, in 2007.
