Spring Peak Skiing in the Boulder Mountains-Idaho
This past weekend Zach Crist and I went out to ski some peaks in our backyard of Idaho. First, was Galena Peak 11,153 ft in the Boulder Mountains. The wind was howling and the temps never warmed up as forecasted. We did get corn skiing a couple thousand feet lower down. Galena Peak is a nice 4500 foot climb and ski. The Galena area offers endless touring options up and down the pass.

The next day we did the classic Silver Tour. This tour starts at the top of the Galena summit and traverses south pass Titus peak to Silver Peak 11,112 ft. At the trail head we ran into our friends Joe St. Onge and Kyle Coshow from Sun Valley Trekking who were heading the same way . The day proved to be one of those perfect spring days that we all crave. We had a blast harvesting the spring corn and ripping turns in such beautiful area.

K2 is proud partner of SAAC
For us riding off-piste, whether on skis, teles or a snowboard was and still is probably the most important reason why we work in this industry. For sure we spend a lot of time in the office, and read more about riding powder than actually doing it ourselves. But once we get out we know why we love what we are doing.
But offering the tools for riding off-piste is only a small part of it. Besides offering a wide range of off-piste skis or introducing our NEW Backside series, which is focused mostly on the adventures skiin goutside the ski area boundaries - no matter if it is lift access freeriding down the backside, classic randonee skiing that´s just growing and growing, or full alpine mountaineering with some steep skiing to get down again - we are also focusing on the education of those who are looking for the ultimate thrill.
Our Backside blog is a growing library of links and information for anything that involves off-piste skiing, we have worldwide cooperations with mountain guides, freeride camps, avalanche education centers and have now also started a new cooperation with one of the leading avalanche education institutions in the German speaking markets:
Since 1998 SAAC has been educating riders about avalanches and dangers in the backcountry with the goal to offer anybody the knowledge and ability to judge and minimize the risk while enjoying the off-piste.
SAAC offers 2 different levels of camps - one 2-day basic camp which is FREE (so be quick signing up as spots are filling up fast...) and a so called SAACnd Step Camp over 3.5 or 5.5 days with a more detailed program s.a. weather and avalanche forecast knowledge, route planning, first aid, etc.
For more information, dates and locations of the 2009-2010 season check their website.
Chamonix Insider... for those who missed out on whatever.

Chamonix Insider...for those who are there but missed out on the sickest party/good weather window/best day ever/massive dump or just for all of us who are not there but wish we were, instead of sitting in the office dreaming about the sickest party/good weather window/best day ever/massive dump.
Chamonix Insider is a new blog and information platform from winter sports industry veteran, journalist, mountaineer, ski/telemark/snowboard-bum and now Chamonerd again Trey Cook, who over the past 12 years has been brewing up, dropping in, flaming out, landing hard, cowboyin’ up, topping out, throwin’ horns and basically having the “Best Day EVER!" over and over and over again in this little corner of paradise that´s called Chamonix.
So check it out, find out what´s going on in one of the sickest mountain spots in the world, and if you go there make sure to talk to Trey about your sickest party/good weather window/best day ever/massive dump so we all can get jealous about it.

Trey enjoying his former life as a journalist, him and me hiking the Shuksan arm at KampK2 2009 held at Mt.Baker. One of those days...
